What We Do

Our innovation ecosystem collaboration increases your access to funding, financing and other resources from organizations across northeastern Ontario and the province. After completing our client questionnaire we’ll meet with you to learn more about your idea or business, discuss your plans and goals in detail, and assess your options. Link North staff will support you throughout your business development, which includes assisting with funding applications and facilitating meetings with our ecosystem partners.

  • Timmins and area
  • Highway 11 corridor from Hearst to Earlton, including Kirkland Lake
  • Gogama, Foleyet, and Chapleau
  • Indigenous communities along the James Bay Coast, including Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Fort Albany, Moosonee, and Moose Factory

Link North’s seamless integration with the Timmins Economic Development Corporation and The Business Enterprise Centre is advantageous for both entrepreneurs and businesses.  Collectively, our “one-stop shop” model supports clients during all stages of business development, from ideation through to commercialization, growth and expansion.

As Program Manager, Sylvie works with you to help you succeed on your entrepreneurial journey. Together, you will build a roadmap to identify key milestones and resources that will allow you to meet your goals – whether it’s to enhance productivity, improve efficiencies, develop a prototype, validate an idea, bring a product to market or business expansion.  Along the way, you’ll participate in workshops to develop your skills as needed and be connected to innovation system resources and funding opportunities to realize your goals.

Sylvie’s spent the last 10 years working in community development. Her career has taken her to Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa where she advised NGOs on project development, accessing grant funding and strategic marketing. As small business owner and entrepreneur, Sylvie has successfully utilized digital marketing strategies, coordinated events and leveraged funding opportunities to grow her business.

Sylvie holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and sits on the Board of Directors for the Timmins Anti-Hunger Coalition.

Ross oversees the development of Link North and he works closely with staff and our Bank of Consultants on developing and delivering its programs and services. When you become a Link North client you will work with either Ross or Sylvie McPhail on your project and business development. 

Ross is well-connected with innovation ecosystem partners and has vast and proven experience with assisting entrepreneurs and businesses with applied research, commercialization, scale-up, and expansion projects. In addition to fostering Link North’s programs and services, Ross develops and manages various Timmins Economic Development Corporation projects including Mining Supply and Services and the Industrial Technology Benefits program for Defence Procurement.

Ross recently obtained his Business Accounting diploma through Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology and holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He is a certified Economic Development Professional (EcD) through the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC).
